  • Don't rush into furnishing your home
You finally have the home of your dreams, but now comes the daunting task of buying the perfect furniture to make it come to life.
  • Before you move
    First things first
If you are currently a tenant, send your landlord notice that you will be moving within the required deadline via registered mail. Contact your local rental board or refer to their website for details on your rights and responsibilities.
  • At the outset: important work
Plan out any home improvement or renovation work before you move into your new home. Take walls, plumbing, electrical work, painting, ceramic tiling and carpeting into consideration, as these jobs are much easier to complete without the distraction of children or animals.
  • Check the plumbing system
Lime and sediment build-up cause damage to water heaters, washing machines and faucets. If you notice thin white streaks on your dishes or deposits around your toilet bowl, you may want to install a water-softening system.
  • Testing your electrical system
All repairs and alterations to electrical systems, outlets and switches should be carried out before any walls are closed. Be careful when working with electricity as it is very dangerous.
  • Installing drywall panels
Drywall is much easier to hang in an empty room. Installing drywall panels is relatively simple, the trick is to start with the ceiling. The sheets on the walls will help hold the sheets on the ceiling in place.
  • Painting your home
Take a tour of your home to inspect the condition and surface of your walls. Some walls may need to be stripped, and if there are water stains or marks in certain areas, you will need to apply a special sealer or primer.
  • Yard and garden
Moving is a perfect time to give your garden a face-life!
  • Plan for future renovations
You probably won’t be able to fix up your entire home before you move in. No worries, home improvement activities are one of the best parts of being a homeowner.
