If you’re looking for an original way to get them onboard, try sending them an e-card that includes your new address, telephone number, moving date and a little message saying you’re counting on them to lend a hand. Of course, you can always pick up the phone to recruit your friends’ help and coordinate schedules.
Taking the professional route
If you’re fed up with long, tiresome moves and the heaps of empty pizza boxes and beer bottles that pile up on moving day, you may want to enlist the help of professional movers. If you decide to go with professionals, be sure to reserve well in advance, especially if you are planning to move at a busy time of the year. Shop around for the best deals and services in your price range. Some professional moving companies will even pack up your belongings for you!
Borrowing or renting a moving truck
If you decide to rent or borrow a moving truck, make sure the person driving has the appropriate licence required to drive it.
Also, take measurements and select a moving truck large enough to fit all of your belongings.
For a one or two bedroom unit, you will probably need a 14 ft to 16 ft truck. A three-bedroom apartment will require a 20 ft truck, and if you are moving an entire house, count on renting a 26 ft truck. Also, be sure to ask the company to supply dollies, hand trucks and straps, which will come in handy when it comes time to haul your fridge up to the third floor!
